Taylor
Taylor Swift was a rarity in pop: she is the sole celebrity who crossed from country into the mainstream and become a global pop culture icon. Swift shed country like it was another layer, showing that she's perhaps the best pop-singer/songwriter in her generation. One who can harness the current zeitgeist and make it personal as well as sing in the other direction. The first songs she released including the neotribute for Tim McGraw were a testament to her talent. But, her follow-up album Fearless of 2008 proved to be a songwriter finding her voice as well as a broader public. Fearless became a worldwide hit and not just in the United States (where it earned with six platinum awards for Top Ten Hits Love Story and "You Belong with Me") as well as in Canada Australia and the U.K. and many other countries. Swift soared to the top of the charts when she released Speak Now. Swift's popularity grew throughout her subsequent three albums: Red (2012), 1989 (2014) and Reputation (2017). Swift was now firmly established within an industry she felt was hers to be. She stayed in the forefront of pop until she reverted to her style with her sibling albums, folklore and Evermore in 2020.
