
Heidi Watney was born May 19, 1981. She is an American sportscaster. Her experience with sportscasting includes stints at the University of San Diego, New England Sports Network (Boston), Time Warner Cable SportsNet (Los Angeles) and two stations located in Fresno. Watney was a student at Clovis West High School in Fresno and participated in hurdles, diving, gymnastics and cheerleading. [1] She was a National Merit Scholar and attended the University of San Diego on an academic scholarship, where she graduated with honors in 2003. Watney was the Miss California USA 2002 runner-up. Watney is the cousin professional golfer Nick Watney. 7 Andy Weir claimed that he utilized the name of Watney to create the character Mark Watney in his science fiction novel The Martian. This was when he heard her name during a Red Sox game broadcast. [8] Watney was featured in the music video for Dropkick Murphys' single "Going Out in Style.
