Taylor Alison Swift, born 13 December 1989, is an American musician and singer. Her discography includes many kinds of music. Her songwriting, often influenced by her own personal experiences, has earned her high praise from critics as well as numerous media coverage. Swift was raised in West Reading, Pennsylvania. She relocated to Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 14 to become a singer-songwriter. Swift signed a songwriting contract with Sony/ATV Music Publishing in 2004 and signed a recording deal with Big Machine Records in 2005. Her self-titled debut album in 2006 marked Swift as the first female country singer to release an album that was U.S.-certified platinum. Swift's subsequent albums Fearless (2008) and Speak Now (2011) explored country pop. The latter's "Love Story," as well as "You Belong with Me" were the first country songs that made it to the top of both the U.S. Pop and All-Genre Airplay charts. She experimented with rock and electronic styles on Red (2012), which included the first Billboard Hot 100 number-one song, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and she eschews her country image in her synth-pop album, 1989 (2014) which was accompanied by chart-topping tracks "Shake It Off", "Blank Space", and "Bad Blood". Reputation (2017) with its number one single "Look at what you did to me" was influenced by the media's attention. Swift quit Big Machine in 2018, and signed with Republic Records. In 2019, Swift released Lover (2019) and was followed by Miss Americana (2020), an autobiography of her life. Swift delved into the realm of indie folk and alternative rock with her albums for 2020, Folklore and Evermore, whose singles "Cardigan" as well as "Willow" topped the Hot 100. Swift began re-recording her first six albums following an argument over the masters, re-releasing two in 2021--Fearless (Taylor's Version) and Red (Taylor's Version). "All Too Well (10 minute version)" was the longest song to reach the top of the Hot 100. Her 2022 album Midnights and the single "Anti-Hero" set new streaming records. Swift has directed music videos, films, and even played supporting roles in other movies. Swift is among the most well-known musicians of all time. She has the highest amount of streams on Spotify and has five albums open that have more than one-million copies sold in the United States. Swift has been awarded 12 Grammy Awards, including three Album of the Year awards; an Emmy Award. There have also been 39 American Music Awards; 29 Billboard Music Awards and 92 Guinness World Records. Swift has been included in such lists as Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time; Billboard’s Greatest of All Time Artists; Forbes Celebrity 100; and Billboard’s 100 Greatest of All Time Artists. Swift has been recognized as the Artist of the Decade or Woman of the Decade. Swift is a champion for artist's rights and women's empowerment.
